Experienced Youth Development Professional + Expert Loving Nana = A Hug for All Children

April Goff Brown’s authorship began about 8 years ago with a simple question her granddaughter asked her one weekend: “Nana, when I’m not here, do you forget me?” That question stayed with her for years, knowing that there was book behind it.

In 2020, prompted to write down one big, bodacious goal for the year, April decided she would publish her book. In December 2020, I Hug You in My Heart became real. A personal story, the book was written to help children understand that even though they may not be able to spend time with their grandparents, they will always be inside their hearts.

April spent over 35 years in the youth development field creating and managing programs for children and youth. Her work led her to understanding mindset development as critical for success and is currently writing a series of books to help children be all that they can be. She focuses on girls’ development in particular so that they grow up as their authentic selves, ready to live an intentional and loving life.

When not writing, April tends to her jewelry business, yoga, gardens, quilting, and assists in the virtual education of her youngest granddaughter, Olivia. She is also contributing author in The Great Pause: Blessings & Wisdom from COVID-19.

Speaking Engagements and School Presentations:

April has years of experience talking to children in classrooms and programs and especially loves to read books to them. Engagements currently focus on her new book, I Hug You in My Heart, which is a story about the grandchild and grandparents’ relationship. April will engage the students in a conversation about grandparents and then read the story to them. Afterwards, April will help students brainstorm ways they can keep in contact with their grandparents and ideas for projects they can make to give their grandparents. In the book, Nana and Zoe make hearts with their photos on them as an activity. Teachers can prepare an activity like this one ahead of time for their students to complete.
